What does it mean in Psalm 37:7 to “Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him”
In application terms it means to avoid rash acts that can rob you of your joy and spiritual security.
It means that you should not worry and you should not doubt in the Lord when someone in the world appears to get their way and when their wrongdoing seems to bring them benefits. Whatever it is we should not worry for the Lord is always with us and will not allow us to fall away from him.
Only God has the power over life or death. He is in control. We do not have to fear for He is our protector.
To rest in the Lord requires much grace to carry it out. To hush the spirit, to be silent before the Lord, to wait in holy patience the time for clearing up the difficulties – that is what every gracious heart should aim at.
We all admit that patient waiting is needed for the great trials of life, but may not acknowledge so readily that it is needed as much for little, daily, tasks and triaks…
In all blessings and trials rest in weakness, rest in superior strength, rest in superior wisdom. But be aware that our “resting patiently” in the Lord applies only to the trials which he sends, not to the troubles which we often make for ourelves. There is a difference in the burdens that come in the way of duty, and those that come through our wandering into other ways.
Be still, be patient and be willing to REST…
