SELFLESS LOVE what is that? What does it look like? What does it require? I think a good place to start is to look at the differences at what SELFISH love looks like and to understand what it truly means to be SELFLESS.

Definition of self-absorption/selfish:

Self-absorption is defined as caring only about one’s own self and one’s own activities and not showing interest in the rest of the world. An example of self-absorption is when you go on and on to your friend about your problems without asking how she is.

Definition of selfless:

Concerned more with the needs and wishes of others than with one’s own.

Each and every one of us fails at some point or another…BUT when you come to the cross when you love God our hearts want to love the way God loves, and our hearts want to turn from our selfish ways, anyone who knows God and comes to the cross will have their hearts changed…not saying we will never sin again but it means we won’t  be committed to the sin, to selfishness. Turning to God means to turn AWAY from SELF.

Society has grown increasingly self-absorbed, minds are focused on “self” rather than with what matters most…most importantly to God. A society consumed with thoughts about “own” life, the pursuit of “own” goals, the fixing of “own” problems, and rarely consider the needs of others?

Do you mean it when you say the words “how are you” “God Bless” Love you???.think about it…in today’s  society many respond to this but only a few ask the question back and mean it.#harshbuttrue

What matters is that we do the works that we were created to do. Like sharing the Good news, being a friend, helping someone in need, going to visit someone that is sick in the hospital, checking in on a friend or loved one, etc.

People are blessed by thoughtfulness. This is the kind of selfless love that goes unnoticed, but God takes notice. He instructs us to let our light shine so that people can see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven (see Matthew 5:16).

Let God shine through you. Let Him be good to someone through you. Let Him heal through you and show His love and kindness through you. Take your mind off of you and focus on doing the works you were created to do.

I haven’t written this because I’m perfect in this area but this is a part of my life, of my heart that I’m so thankful to God that he has opened my eyes since I got saved. I always pray for a compassionate heart and I’ll be open and honest by saying there have been many times of discouragement when I love others  selflessly and get a selfish love response, and at times fallen guilty off. But this is the beauty of God’s love it’s unconditional, the kind of  “Love that is patient and kind. A kind of Love that is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. that does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. A kind of  Love that never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, a kind that endures through every circumstance. “

If if you’ve read this and felt the conviction of loving selflessly, don’t be discouraged, be thankful to God for opening your eyes to this area in your life and turn back to him and ask him to help you to love selflessly, ALWAYS looking for the interests of others and not yourself…

I pray this encourages you and wishing you a blessed day ahead, till the next time…
